Top 10 Do's Of An Interview

1. Arrive 10-15 minutes early. Telephone if you are going to be delayed (but don’t be!).

2. Arrive alone. The employer wants to see you, not your friends or family. Demonstrate your independence. If you get a ride, ask your companion to leave you at the entrance and wait unobtrusively until you come out.

3. Be prepared. Avoid a negative impression by giving a strong positive one!

4. Introduce yourself confidently. Identify yourself by your name and give the name of the person you are there to see, the time of the appointment and the position you are applying for.

5. Be friendly and considerate to all personnel you meet in the process. Your on-going evaluation begins the minute you walk through the door.

6. Shake hands firmly when introduced to the interviewer. Greet her or him by name and introduce yourself. Remain standing until you are invited to sit.

7. Be positive, enthusiastic and interested about the job, about the company, the interviewer and yourself.

8. Be yourself … be natural.

9. Maintain eye contact without staring. Ask questions that require more than a “yes” or “no” answer.

10. Keep the door open to your opportunity. Following discussion, tell the interviewer that you are (or are not) interested in the job and ask (politely) when you can expect to hear from him/her.
